About IfOnlyCrypto

The story behind the internet's favourite crypto regret calculator.

Why We Built This

If you've ever been in a conversation about crypto, you've heard it: "I almost bought Bitcoin in 2017." Or the classic: "My mate put £500 into Ethereum and now it's worth a fortune."

We built IfOnlyCrypto to give those conversations a real number. Not a vague "it would have been a lot" — an actual dollar figure, with a chart, a breakdown, and a shareable card so you can post it and let people feel the full force of the FOMO.

We also built it because we couldn't find a tool that was fast, beautiful, and honest about what it is: a bit of fun, a lot of insight, and a good reminder that hindsight is always 20/20 in investing.

What the Calculator Does

📊 Historical Price Data

We use approximate historical closing prices from March each year, sourced from public market records, to calculate what any investment would have returned from your chosen start year to today.

⚡ Live Prices via CoinGecko

The "today" figure uses live price data from the CoinGecko API, so the current value of your hypothetical investment is always up to date — not a static number from when the page was last updated.

📤 Shareable Results Card

Hit "Share Results" and download a clean PNG of your result — designed to look great on Twitter, Reddit, Instagram, and anywhere else you want to make your friends feel bad about their financial decisions.
